DIVING
FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS IN AND AROUND CANCUN
Being on the edge of the Caribbean helps the whole
eastern side of the Yucatan has some of the best diving in the
world. Also the fact that there are no rivers in Yucatan dumping
silt helps make Cancun and Cozumel both world-class diving resorts.
So what is the difference?
Diving in Cancun: Cancun diving is generally shallower
than Cozumel diving. The bottom is more like rolling hills and
in most areas literally covered with fish. Cancun is noted for
great schools of fish of all types. Great diving can be had
in Cancun.
Cozumel Diving: Cozumel is more noted for walls and panoramic
views than Cancun. Massive coral heads 2 and 3 stories tall
can be seen. The drop off at the Santa Rosa wall is an unforgettable
sight.
Cancun or Cozumel, both are worthy of log entries in your dive
log book. So don’t hesitate.
Cavern Diving: As if the there was not enough great diving
in Cancun and Cozumel there is also the world’s largest
cavern system make for some spectacular diving.
About our dives: We have a variety of dives available
daily. Please see the chart below.

What size are your boats and how many divers is the maximum?
The boat is 28 foot 33 foot 38 foot. On any of these boat the
maximum is 14 divers and the normal number is 6 to 8.
What is the diver to dive master ratio?
There is one dive master for 4 divers is the normal ratio. When
there are students the ratio is one diver master for 2 students.
Should we bring our personal gear, mask, fins and snorkel?
Many people prefer their own mask, fins and snorkel. We do have
them available so this is a personal preference. They are
included in your dive with equipment.
Do we need a dive computer?
The diving in Cancun does not require the use of a dive
computer. Your dives will be too shallow and to short in
duration to require computer profiling. If you own a computer
feel free to bring it along.
Do we need wet suits or dive skins?
To protect yourself from the reef and the reef from you we do
recommend wet suits or dive skins. In the winter months a wet
suit feels nice as the air is cool and the water about 78
degrees. There are also times where you will hit a thermocline
and the wetsuit feels good.
Do you rent wet suits?
Yes. They will cost you$10 per day.
Is Nitrox Available?
No. There is not Nitrox readily available in Cancun because of
the nature of the dives.

How deep are the Cancun dives?

We do not recommend it. The dives are in water too deep for a

We recommend if you have a propensity for getting seasick that

| CAVERN DIVING QUESTIONS |
What is the difference between cavern diving and cave diving?
"Cavern diving is defined as any dive conducted within the light
zone of a cave. Cave diving is any dive conducted beyond the
light zone of a cave. The light zone of a cave is defined as
that part of the cave from which natural light illuminating the
entrance is visible at all times."
Also according to PADI "penetration dives are limited to within
the light zone and within 40 meters/130 feet from the surface,
vertical and horizontal distance included."
The cenotes or caverns near Cancun do meet the PADI standard to
be called Cavern Dives.
We are beginners is a cenotes cavern dive for us?
Absolutely. A cenote dive here in the Yucatan will be one of the
highlights of your diving experiences. You will not forget it.
Imagine going in a cavern with stalagmites and stalactites but
you are in crystal clear water.
When doing the cenotes diving do you use lines and reels?
There are permanent lines in place in the caverns. You will not
need additional lines or reels.
Are diving lights supplied (or would we need to bring our
own)?
Dive lights are provided, but feel free to bring your own. |
